PYT - A Plus (Advanced Auto Naming)

What it does

The game's A+ Auto-Rename button — plus a whole lot more. Design your own names by clicking pieces, let new lines name themselves in your style, number every vehicle after its line. Nothing changes until you say so.

"Line 17". "Line 18". "Line 19". The game's Auto-Rename helps, but it only knows three ways to name a line. A Plus gives you thirteen — and the pieces to build your own, in your own order, in your own words.

What you get

• Your own list of naming styles — set them up once, then use the game's own A+ Auto-Rename button to give each line the one you want, or set A Plus to name new lines automatically in the style you choose
• Name lines — build your own naming style by clicking pieces in the order you like: towns, stops, line number, kind (Bus, Train, Freight ...), cargo, colour, direction, era, town codes (LEE - YOR) and more. Joiners like " - ", "via" and "to". Words: Line, Route, Express — or type your own
• Thirteen styles — our ten ready-made ones (Red Line, Bus 7, Leeds - York via Harrogate, Coal Run, InterCity ...), each one editable, plus three of your own. Reset to default whenever you like
• A live preview — on a short town line, a long intercity run and a cargo run, so you see how a style looks short and long — and on your own lines
• In the game's own list — your styles appear in the Lines window's Auto-Rename list (the A+ button) as "PYT: ..." choices
• Auto line names (off until you switch it on) — new lines get your style; lines it named follow when their stops change. A name you or another mod gave is never touched. If a name it gave is changed, Auto stops for that line and tells you. Changed your mind? One button undoes it all — right below
• Put the old names back — one button returns every line A Plus renamed to the name it had before
• Protected Lines — some mods need their own line names: tell A Plus which to leave alone (name contains / starts with / ends with), lock single lines, and it suggests rules when it sees tags like [M] in your names
• Name vehicles — Leeds - York #1, #2 ... oldest first, grouped by Buses, Trucks, Trains, Ships, Planes, Helicopters and Drones. Once with a button, or Auto: every vehicle you add gets the next number. Names you typed yourself are never changed
• Plays well with PYT — lines run by PYT - Factory Buffer, Distribution and Fleet Control keep their names, and their trucks too
• Your styles travel — kept for every game. The Auto switches belong to each game and start off in a new one
• Light on its feet — Auto only looks again at a line when something about it changed (its stops, colour, vehicles or your style), and checks every 5 minutes; want it now? Press Check names now
• Reverse lines stay twins — a line ending in (R) (PYT - Tram Doctor’s reverse lines) keeps its (R) in whatever name it gets, so a line and its way back never share a name
• Console friendly — the A Plus window works on PS5 and Xbox (thanks to Maxmadimus for the report)

How to start

1. Click the PYT button in the top bar, then A Plus (the Aa tag)
2. Name lines: pick a style in the drop-down and click pieces to change it — the preview shows the result at once
3. Use it: in the Lines window select your lines, press Auto-Rename (the A+ button) and pick a "PYT:" name — or switch on Auto line names and let new lines take it themselves

Mod developer's tip: put your own word first — "Tourist", "Heritage", "Night" — and a whole group of lines tells its story at a glance in the Lines window.

Why this mod — a note from epod

"Auto Line Namer is a fantastic mod — a quality-of-life feature we all love and enjoy. The issue for me was that I couldn't use it: up-and-coming PYT mods need specific names for their lines to function. So we put together PYT - A+, to have the best of both worlds."
